Charcoal on Paper

Summary:

This piece was solely an experiment to test a new medium and media. When deciding on a medium for the ‘Redemption Rabbit’ artwork, I considered doing the piece in charcoal for its gritty and dark look. Having no experience with charcoal I made this practice piece to see how the medium would display and feel.

This skull was scaled to a size of 0.80 x 1m. This was done with a projector. A reference image of the human skull was projected onto the sheet of paper. With this I learnt to create these large delicate artworks in a small amount of time. This piece was create in 30 minutes.

I was pleased with the end result of the experiment. The technique used enabled me to get proportions correct and apply realistic shading. This technique has also opened up lots of opportunity to scale my artworks and increase detail at a quick rate.
