Black marker on paper
Summary:
This piece was presented in a set of 3 artworks. All were produced for an art class assessment. The piece focused on the community’s perspective on mental disease. This piece enhanced my ability with curved line. Organic shape was a major theme of the work as the form of the brain was researched and drawn multiple times.

The creature in the piece was designed after I saw this image of the bottom view of the human brain (via articulomortis). The spinal cord/brain stem became the foundation of the creature’s design.
Many concept works were created for the artwork, some even using mediums I am not efficient in such as paint on cardboard paper.

Other images were made of the creature but it could not stand alone for the final piece. Therefore the brain’s organic form was included.

Other views of the brain were produced with different creatures, these monster were made to support the original and create a set of pieces.

The anatomy of the creature was quite flat. To improve upon my character design I intend to research human and animal muscle anatomy. Overall I am well-pleased with this piece. It was a major milestone for my creativity as it was the first time I progressively developed a character
